The people who make our community thrive must be able to afford to live here. Affordable housing, cost-effective transportation and supportive initiatives are essential to making our communities thrive. We need a proven advocate in Ottawa with the experience and drive to represent our interests. I would be honoured to be your MP in Ottawa knowing that our cities and villages are highly desirable locations in which to live. However, due to the rising home prices and aggressive real estate practices our residents are experiencing pressures to leave the area and employers of all types are having difficulty finding local staff who can afford to live here. I believe we must do more to provide our citizens the opportunity to stay and flourish in Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. On the issue of housing, I have consistently responded to the voices of the residents who live with these affordability issues every day by ensuring the needs of current residents are balanced in the ongoing push and pull with corporate redevelopment interests. From an affordable housing strategy to fighting to keep our taxes low, to advocating for local business, I have worked hard to keep the needs of residents and families the priority in my decision making. As your representative in Ottawa, I will be the voice of my constituents, an active member in Parliament and an upholder of NDP values.

- Consistently advocating for the budget deliberations and itemized decisions to happen in a meeting open to the public
Transparency is a term frequently mentioned in politics. It is a multi-faceted concept. I believe at its core, transparency is about being open and honest while putting all the issues out there to be discussed. It is the right of every Canadian to examine the decision-making processes of those elected to serve the people. Ensuring that legislation is scrutinized and carefully considered in a transparent manner is my promise to you. As City Councillor I have always aligned my intentions with my actions and will continue to do so as your MP. People will have an opportunity to not only respond, but more importantly to understand the opportunities and decisions of our federal government. In every aspect of my duties, ensuring that my actions and those of our government remain transparent is of highest priority.
Inclusion & Equity
We are extremely fortunate to live in a region made up of individuals with delightfully diverse backgrounds. Locally our citizens respect and value all forms of our differences as individuals and I believe we must continue to foster this inclusive environment to keep striving toward a community, a region and a country where everyone feels respected and able to achieve their full potential.
Most important is that equal access to opportunities is created for everyone so they may freely and safely contribute their ideas and concerns. As a City Councillor serving my third term, I’ve advocated for gender equity, access for residents facing physical and attitudinal barriers, clean air, new space for pets (even in condo towers), and the Inclusive Rainbow Crosswalk. It is critical that all public officials and decision-makers listen to every point of view and promote inclusion with action.
I believe strongly in ensuring inclusion and equity in my role as a City Councillor in Coquitlam and will continue to do so as your MP. In my six years on Council I have been the voice for the importance of safe and inclusive spaces.
